With the turbulent situation in the high tech sector, new and innovative business models are being created to help protect and assist small and start-up companies who are venturing into information technology and e-business solutions.
Borealis takes this idea to the next level. Acting as an incubator for small business, Borealis offers reasonably priced office space with all inclusive features such as website hosting, phone lines, office furniture, boardroom usage and workstation access.
“Borealis’ concept is a new one, providing opportunities that were otherwise unimaginable to small and start-up companies,” says Marquis Côté, Executive Vice-President Borealis. “By providing an ‘all-in-one’ facility to start-ups, we reduce their overhead considerably, allowing them to focus on growing their products, ideas or services, and ultimately their company in a strategic way.”
“Being start-up friendly means addressing the pains involved in starting up a company,” says Mr. Côté. ” For the most part these pains revolve around the issue of money - and how to spend less of it in order to grow your company and not your overhead. With start-ups there often isn’t enough money to rent office space, let alone purchase computers, furniture, setting up networks, equipment and the associated bills that go with having office space (phone lines, fax lines web hosting). Borealis eases this pain.”
For those start-up companies who are not quite ready to rent office space full time, Borealis offers a variety of “memberships” that allow you access to the facility its services. “Our Membership program is very popular. We essentially grant members a certain amount of hours each month to use the boardroom for client/investor meetings, as well as the printers, fax machines and workstations. This gives the small business owner the legitimacy and credibility that is often lacking in the home-office environment.”
The extended benefits of renting office space at Borealis are numerous. Considering that there are approximately 10 companies currently renting space, with another 20 who hold Memberships, the opportunities for networking and partnering on contract opportunities is immense. “The Borealis infrastructure is conducive to this kind of collaboration and opportunity, and in effect is the exact model we envision for Borealis,” adds Mr. Côté. “Incubators of innovation - whether that be service or product driven - is where the future lies for Borealis. But always with a focus on the people behind the
innovation.”
